PREGNANT WOMAN INJURED IN CRASH

FLOWN FROM SCENE TO HOSPITAL
Tuesday – April 1, 2009 2:00pm
Elyria Township – A two car crash on North Ridge Road in Elyria Township sent two people to the hospital – one by helicopter to Fairview.

Trooper Crystal Evans of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said that Gayle Skodny of Lorain attempted to make a left turn onto North Ridge Road when she pulled out in front of Kimberly McCoughla. “When Skodny pulled out she said she realized there was a yellow car coming in the left lane heading westbound – she tried to stop but she was in the yellow cars lane and the yellow car struck her car in the left front corner.”

Lieutenant Dave Keener of the Elyria Township Fire Department said that Skodny refused treatment or transport at the scene. McCoughla and her mother were both treated at the scene. McCoughla, who is 37 weeks pregnant, was transported to the back parking lot of Deluca’s Place in the Park to meet Metro LifeFlight. She was then flown to Fairview General for evaluation. McCoughla’s mother was transported by Sheffield Township Firefighters to Amherst Emergency Room.

Keener said that although it was not a high speed crash, there was moderate damage to both vehicles. “With the combination of the mechanism of injury, the damage and the fact that she was 9 months pregnant we felt it best to get the helicopter on the ground for her. Her husband was able to get here in time to also fly along with her, so that worked out very well.”

Skodny was charged with Failure to Yield while turning left from a stop sign.

Having Life Flight based at the County Airport is a good thing. I just hope the County clowns do not screw that up.
