POLICE CHASE TOPS 100MPH

ENDS IN AVON LAKE WITH A BLOWN ENGINE
AND DRIVER UNDER ARREST
Avon Lake – A high-speed chase that began in Carlisle Township Sunday afternoon ended in Avon Lake with the driver under arrest and facing multiple charges.

Trooper JT Toth of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said his Department had received complaints of a pack of Honda cars driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed on Route 20 near 301. “I took up a position on the ramp at route 57 and spotted a group of about 2 or 3 of them doing 75 to 80 MPH. Most of the group stopped for me – except for him.”

Toth said that the driver, Herbin Delgado Jr. of Cleveland, exited 20 onto route 57 in a Honda Civic SI – almost losing it on the ramp.

The chase traveled north on 57 then turned east on Chestnut Ridge Road into North Ridgeville. It then went south on route 83 into Eaton Township and turned west on route 82 circling back onto route 57 northbound.

Once the chase was inside of Elyria Delgado headed east on Sugar Ridge Road back into North Ridgeville.

North Ridgeville Police Officers joined in on the chase north on 83 through Avon and then into Avon Lake. Throughout the route Delgado was able to avoid hitting stop sticks put out by Officers.

The chase, that according to Toth had hit top speeds of 120 MPH, ended on Jaycox Road, north of Chester, in Avon Lake after the engine blew up on Delgado’s car.

Neighbors say that Delgado was ordered out of the car at gunpoint and arrested.

Toth said that Delgado would be charged with Felony Fleeing and Alluding, multiple traffic violations and Driving Under Suspension.

Departments assisting the Patrol in the pursuit were North Ridgeville, Avon and Avon Lake.
