SUSPECT TAKES OWN LIFE

Ohio State Highway Patrol Investigators were on the scene of an incident Saturday where a suspect in a stolen vehicle took his own life after fleeing from troopers on the Ohio Turnpike.

On Saturday at approximately 1:27 p.m. the Patrol received information from the Automatic Plate Recognition (APR) system near milepost 3 on the Ohio Turnpike, indicating it had recognized the license plate of a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix that had been reported stolen in Wisconsin last week.

Troopers on the Turnpike spotted the stolen vehicle near milepost 34 in Fulton County and attempted to make a traffic stop. The suspect fled east on the turnpike and exited southbound State Route 109, crashing through the tollgate.

The suspect continued to US Route 2, where he made a U-turn onto northbound State Route 109 where he was stop-sticked by a trooper. The suspect, having one tire deflated, slowed his vehicle to a stop. When troopers approached his vehicle the suspect was already deceased, having taken his own life from an apparent knife wound.

Findlay District Investigators and the Fulton County Coroner investigated the scene.

Investigators are trying to identify the suspect and more information will be released once next of kin notification has been made.
