TEEN KILLED ON WALK WITH DAD

A 15 year old from Oberlin was killed Friday night while walking along Route 511 with his father.

Kevin Koney, Dispatcher with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said that Curtis D. Garn was walking westbound on Route 511 when he was struck by 77 year old Albert Helke. Helke, also of Oberlin, was traveling westbound on 511, just east of Oberlin Road, in his 1997 Chevy Aerostar Van when he struck Garn around 7:45 p.m.

Garn was taken by ambulance to Allen Medical Center Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.

Garn’s death marks the first traffic fatality of the new year for Lorain County. There were 27 deaths on Lorain County roadways in 2007.

On behalf of the family I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. This is a terrible tragedy that is affecting everyone. We also have not received any feedback on the facts, so not knowing is hurting all of us even more. Funeral announcements will be in tomorrows newspaper with dates and times.

Curtis Who
Curtis was only fifthteen,
Who was hit by a car.
Who went so quick,it seemed,
Who was only fifteen.

Who was kind of like a
big brother to me,
Who was going to get a
car with a key.

Curtis was a nice cousin,
Who defended and looked out for I.
But now we have to say good bye.
Bye to our cousin,
Bye to our son,
Bye to our nephew,
Bye to our grandson.
Bye to our friend,
Bye to our student.
Bye to our buddy,
Bye to our stranger.
Goodbye Curtis, we will all miss you.

Curtis
He was the one with the yellow hair,
That looked cool with what he weared.
He really,really likes his shoes,
Really,really dark,dark blue.
He liked to play his PS2 games,
If he lost,he had someone to blame.
So while we all grieve today,
That guy will pay,he will pay.
We all should say,we will say,
Curtis, we will see you someday.

Curtis was only fifthteen. He wasn't done with his life yet. He was looking forward to this summer, and probably to his up-coming birtday,(He would be old enough to drive). We all have memories of him. Whether they're good or bad, Curtis will not be forgotten. Curtis was good at alot of things. He tought me some stuff, helped me with some stuff, gave me some tips, and he was always on my side, and I was always on his. So whether you like him or not, you have a memory of him. If you don't know him, just kow he was a great fifthteen year old. We had alot in common; magic, cards, steelers, cars, NASCAR, and drawing. He was the greatest drawer in the whole world,(in my opinion) Just remember, he will be missed, but not forgotten.
