SINGLE CAR CRASH IN AMHERST

PASSENGER FLEES SCENE

Two men traveling, at a high rate of speed, south on South Lake Street in Amherst late Friday night somehow got air born while taking a curve near Beech Cliff and crashed.

The car, while in the air, struck a utility pole and flew over a set of trees before landing in a front yard. Neighbors who heard the crash ran out to see what happened. One neighbor said he witnessed the passenger get out of the car and begin to walk away. “I kept telling him that he needed to stay and get help cause I could see that he was hurt but he just kept walking south on Lake.”

Amherst Firefighters had to cut the driver out of the car so the LifeCare Paramedics could begin treating him. The driver was taken to Community Health Partners where he was later flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Amherst Police found out who the passenger was and where he lived so they went to his apartment complex to see if they could find him, fearing that he could have serious injuries. It wasn’t long after they arrived at the Pine Crest Apartment complex in Amherst before they found the passenger lying in the grass near a parking lot. LifeCare Paramedics who were standing by at the scene in case he was found responded to the apartment complex to render care to the man. He was then transported to Amherst Hospital Emergency Room.

The Amherst Police Department is investigating the crash.
