TWO CRITICAL IN LORAIN CRASH
BREAKING NEWS
A crash involving a Lorain County Transit bus in Lorain this afternoon sent two people with critical injuries and about a dozen others with non-serious injuries to the hospital.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Grove Ave and East 31st Street around 12:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. The bus, traveling west on 31st street crossing Grove, crashed into a Buick Century that was traveling north on Grove crossing E 31st Street. The bus ended up in the yard of Lorain Fire Station # 3 while the Buick Century struck a fire hydrant and utility pole taking out power in the area.
Lieutenant Horvath of the Lorain Fire Department said that he was inside the station when the power went out but did not hear the crash. “Another Firefighter heard the crash and looked out the window, that’s when he saw the bus still rolling towards the building.” Firefighters went out side and quickly realized that the two people in the Century had sustained very serious injuries. “We were able to extricate the driver through his door fairly easily but we did have to use hand tools to remove the female passenger.” During the extrication Firefighters had to use an extinguisher on the engine as it started sparking threatening a fire.
Pricilla Bidlake, Supervisor of Lorain LifeCare Ambulance said that Paramedics from LifeCare, both on duty and off duty, worked hard to manage the scene. “We treated two critical patients, both from the car along with two patients who we considered stable. We also had the bus loaded with people who were complaining of minor injuries such as shoulder pains, and other bumps and bruises.” The 67-year-old driver of the Buick and his female passenger were both flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland from Community Health Partners.

Bidlake said that LifeCare has long planned and trained for large-scale incidents such as this. Supervisors from both Lorain and Elyria were sent to the scene along with a total of three ambulances and a 20-passenger bus. While triaging the victims Bidlake said that LifeCare’s Communication Center was contacting area hospitals alerting them of the crash and determining how many victims they were able to receive. “Part of our plan is to alert the hospitals and to find out who can take what so we never overload any one hospital emergency room. We were lucky in this case where all of the victims were taken to Community Health Partners West Campus.”
Michael Bridge, Supervisor of Elyria LifeCare Ambulance said that their bus is a valuable part of their large-scale incident plan. "One part of LifeCare’s plan is the use of our 20-passenger bus in which we are able to use it as a command post or to transport patients who have very minor injuries and are ambulatory. We staffed the bus with two Paramedics who were able to monitor the patients on the way to West.”
Two males that had fled the scene right after the crash returned just as the LifeCare bus was leaving. The bus was turned around for them because they said they wanted to be checked out at the hospital. When asked why they took off after the crash they said they were “afraid it would blow up.”

These LCD drivers are out of control most the time speeding and not stopping at stop signs ive seen them several times doing these things its a wonder why there isnt more accidents with the LCT
Great coverage by TMC news. And what a great job done by Lorain Fire Department, Lifecare and certainly the ER in being able to take all the patients!! I was impressed at the teamwork!!!
Both of them in the car are in serious condition. The driver has internal bleeding, broken bones, failing organs, ect... The passenger has a lot of broken bones. Neither remember the crash. I think it's messed up because they are trying to say my grandpa ran the red light but if you ask me i think they are saying that so they dont have to pay for his car and the medical bills that is if he even makes it. It was a pretty serios accident and since it was a state vehicle involved the lct driver will probably win. Its messed up.
It was my grandfather and his girlfriend in this accident. They are both in serious condition. He has internal bleeding, broken bones, failing organs, ect. She has lots of broken bones. They are trying to say its his fault but I beleive it was the other drivers fault because I have never known my grandpa to run stop signs or red lights but I guess we will see what the state thinks. They will rule it as his fault all because the LCT bus is state property so they will want him to pay for it instead of the state having to pay for his car and all his medical bills. I think its completly messed up
