TRAPPED BY HOT WIRES
Central Lorain County Ambulance District Paramedics and Oberlin Fire Fighters responded to a single car crash Friday afternoon on Leavitt Road, south of Russia Road. When rescuers arrived on scene they found a car that had struck a utility pole and was resting in a ditch on the east side of the road.
The good news for the couple inside of the car was that they seemed to be ok, the bad news was there were live wires lying across the top of the car.
Rescuers held back from approaching the vehicle until a representative from Ohio Edison arrived on scene and removed the wires from the car. During the 20 or so minute wait, a Paramedic took a knee on the pavement close to the ditch and kept a line of communication open with the couple trapped in their car.
Once the car was free from the wires Paramedics examined the couple in the car. Both people refused medical treatment at the scene. Paramedics helped the couple out of the car and escorted them back up onto the roadway.
