4-YEAR-OLD FOUND RIDING TRI-CYCLE ALONE

Elyria – An alert off-duty Elyria Police Officer spotted a 4-year-old boy riding a tri-cycle alone on West River Road North Saturday afternoon.

Elyria Police Officer Jim Sword said he was traveling southbound on West River Road near David Dr when he spotted the 4-year-old riding on the sidewalk of West River Road without any parental supervision. Sword pulled over and contacted the Police Department about the youth.

Officers asked but were unable to get the child to tell them his name or where he lived. He only pointed towards the apartments on Fox Hill when he was asked where he lives. Officers said an unknown citizen pulled up saying she knows the child’s mother and that she will go tell her to come to the intersection.

A short time later the mother appeared at the intersection and she was identified as Jennifer Pandy.

Officers asked Pandy if she was outside while the child was riding his tri-cycle, she said “no, he usually rides around the home and I look out the window to check on him.”

Pandy was informed what the child doing and how Sword found him riding alone with heavy traffic on West River. Pandy told Officers that her mother was over earlier and thought maybe she was watching him.

Officer Marsico then arrested Pandy for “Endangering Children,” and was issued a summons to appear in court on September 14th. Pandy was then released from Police custody and was reunited with the boy.
