MOBILE HOME DESTROYED BY FIRE

Elyria Township – A mid-afternoon fire broke out in a mobile home on Middle Ridge Road Monday leaving the structure a total loss.

Firefighters from Elyria Township were assisted by Sheffield Township in battling the blaze. The mobile home sits on the property of Spiegelberg Orchards right next door to Deluca’s in the Park.

When Firefighters arrived they found the structure fully involved and were informed that nobody was inside. Firefighters began a defensive attack and had the blaze under control in about a half hour.

After the fire was extinguished the job of overhauling began. Firefighters wanted to make sure they pulled all of the debris from the structure to avoid any rekindling.

Traffic on Middle Ridge Road was blocked just outside of Spiegelberg’s after Firefighters stretched a 5” hose across the street to a hydrant. Police from Lorain and the Sheriff’s Department directed traffic during the closing.

Although Firefighters do not believe the fire was a result of arson, they did say that the arson investigators will be inspecting the structure to determine a cause.
