THREE–CAR CRASH ON GATEWAY
Elyria – A three-car crash in Elyria Saturday afternoon sent one driver to the hospital and another thankful for something interesting – more on that in a minute.
Ashley Nida was traveling south on Gateway Saturday afternoon on her way to see her boyfriend. As she crossed Second Street – on a yellow flashing traffic light – a car traveling west on Second T-Boned her after running through a red flashing traffic light.
Nida said that when the cars collided they began to spin around in the intersection. While spinning she was struck by a pick up truck that was just behind her on Gateway. The driver and passenger in the pick up said that they saw the collision but everything after that was a blur because they threw their hands up to cover their faces – fearing what might happen.
Nida, who was wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash, was shaken up but was not injured. She, along with the two men in the pick up truck refused treatment and transport by LifeCare Paramedics.
The driver of the car that ran the red light complained of neck and back pains and was treated on scene by Firefighters and Paramedics. She was later transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.
While the Technicians from Mug’s Elyria Auto Service were cleaning up the scene and hooking up the cars – Nida huddled with her family who arrived shortly after the crash. Nida reflected for a moment and said there was one bright spot in all of this – She said she almost filled up her gas tank but decided to do it after going to her boyfriends. So she has that going for her!
