THREE CAR CRASH ON I-90 IN AVON

FIVE VICTIMS TAKEN TO AREA HOSPITALS
CHILD FLYS OUT OF CAR SEAT – SERIOUS
Avon – A three-car crash in Avon sent 6 people to area hospitals Saturday afternoon – one of the victims according to Avon Fire is under the age of 2 and was in critical condition.

Chief Frank Root of the Avon Fire Department said that the crash occurred after two cars got tangled up in the westbound lanes of I-90. “The Mazda and a VW Beetle were traveling west on 90 when they got into a pit maneuver sending both cars off the right side of the highway. The car that caused it, the Bug, went up over the guardrail and into the eastbound lanes where it struck the minivan, that was heading east, head on.”

Root said that in total Firefighters transported six people to area hospitals. “The biggest concern we had was a child that was under two years of age that wasn’t restrained properly that flew into the front of the minivan from the back seat. That was the main concern of our first squad on scene. They got that child loaded and to Fairview General Hospital Trauma extremely fast. The father of that child was also transported with the child to be checked out. The driver of the minivan was transported after complaining of chest pains and we also transported two other back seat occupants of the van who were ambulating when our guys arrived on scene. The driver of the VW Beetle was transported after complaining of head, neck and chest pains.”

The driver of the Mazda refused any treatment or transport from Firefighters.

Avon Firefighters received assistance in treating and transporting the victims from Westlake, Bay Village and North Ridgeville Fire Departments.

The Avon Police Department is investigating the crash.
