“WE’RE JUST TRYING TO GET HOME”
Elyria – A LifeCare Ambulance crew heading back to their station late Saturday night probably did a quick double take as they were crossing the 4th Street bridge. The crew spotted a car lodged on the sidewalk between the bridge wall and a concrete barrier.
The crew spun around to check it out – they found two people inside alert and laughing.
Arriving just moments after the LifeCare crew called in the crash we asked the driver, Gina Triplett, where she was heading. “Well, we’re trying to get home but we’re stuck.” Triplett then attempted to start the car again to get back on the road – one of the Paramedics was able to get her to turn her keys over to him at that point.
A Paramedic climbed into the car through the back seat to access Triplett and her passenger – neither claimed of having any injuries and refused treatment or transport.
When Police arrived they took Triplett into custody for Reckless Operation and OVI.While technicians from Mug’s Elyria Auto Service were in the process of removing the car from the bridge a Trooper rolled up and inspected the Impala. He had been looking for the car in relation to an earlier crash in Carlisle Township.
Laird Bell lives on East River and says he and his wife woke up after hearing crashing noises. “We heard a couple loud noises and then the tires on the pavement so we looked out the window. We saw the car on the road heading north then they cut left and went into our daughters yard.”
Triplett took out a street sing, mailbox and shrubs – not to mention turfing lawns – along East River before heading into Elyria and crashing on the bridge.
“How are they going to get that car out of there” is the question that was being asked by Police, neighbors and even a Domino’s pizza delivery guy who stopped by to watch. With all of those eyes on them, and the eyes of Bones the dog (see pictures 14 & 15 in the gallery) Technicians carefully lifted the rear of the car and pulled to towards the street and set it down. They then did the same to the front of the car successfully removing it without causing further damage to the bridge.
Troopers say that they will also charge the driver with OVI for the crash in Carlisle. For those of you keeping count, that is two OVI’s for Triplett in one night.

those pesky street sings are hard to avoid sometimes.
I wonder if the idiot who's laughing as he's getting out of the car would be laughing if they had hit and killed someone?
To the person who posted "I wonder if the idiot who's laughing as he's getting out of the car would be laughing if they had hit and killed someone?"
You should look into your own past and see if there are any cases where you had been out drinking all night and then got in a car even if you were not drving and the person driving was drunk. You could have just as easily killed someone. Everyone makes mistakes and most people I believe learn from mistakes made.
Great another person eager to dismissed unacceptable behavior by saying the person made a mistake, accusing someone of having made the same mistake, blah blah blah. Driving drunk is not acceptable or excused....whatever you say or claim. Had that car struck one of your relatives walking down the street, I would bet you would not be so quick to excuse the behavior as a "mistake". Would love to see Triplett's driving record.
That is a great story Terry. I love to read about drunks with a sense of humor. Glad she ended up where she belongs.
Jes, driving drunk is not an accident it is a choice!
it is wrong, dangerous, selfish and AGAINST THE LAW. this person should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law
she should get her licensed revoked for life its all a big joke i hope the judge gets to see the picture of both of them laughing inside the car. jes your Dumb@ss look into your past you would probably still be a dumb@ss
okay jes..what if that person was a loved one of yours that could have possibly been hit & killed, think about that you idiot, i hope that you think about this, cause when something happens to your family i do not want to see you on here crying & asking for sympathy you idiot, well now that the city hates you have a great day!
I guess I must have forgot that we live in a perfect world where no one ever does anything wrong. I am sure most of you posting have made the choice at one point or another in your life to drive drunk therefore risking everyone else who was on the roadway with you. I never once said that they should not face the consequences I just simply stated that everyone makes mistakes, obviously the male was not the driver, and my comment refered only to him and his mistake not the female. If there is one perfect person in this world I would love to meet them.
As for the comment that calls me a dumb@ss, you dont know me or my past and I see you are remaining anonymous do you have something to hide?
its funny how people point the finger when clearly it was also the driver she is not so innocent check the dumb witches past im sure this isnt her first ,second or third dui.
Dear Jes....No there has not been a single case where I have drove any type of vehicle under the influence of anything. Nor have I rode in a vehicle driven by someone who has. That is just pure stupidity. Any responsible mature adult would agree. I take that law seriously because it makes all the sense in the world. Yes, people do make mistakes every once in awhile and some learn from them, some do not. But if more people pay attention when spoken to about drinking and driving and take the stance of not making the "mistake" of killing someone by OVI to learn a lesson, there would be less senseless deaths by people like this
hey jes (and anyone else who defends this idiot) - this is the same type of person that would sue your @## off if you 'accidentally' made the same mistake and damaged their property or worse yet - harmed their family in some way.
I wish the tow truck driver had tossed the car over the rail and said 'sorry lady - I didn't realize I had one too many drinks tonight. oh well - we all make mistakes right?"
I'm currently on suspention for a dui my first i feel horrible for it , if i where to have hurt/killed someone I would not be able to live with it i hope the people laughing in this story realize there mistakes also and have gottin a reallity check like me
I LOOK AT THIS AND WONDER? AT WHAT AGE DO YOU REALIZE THAT IT IS TIME TO GROW UP!!!! WELL I BELIEVE IN THIS CASE IT WOULD BE NOW..... OR THEN AGAIN MAYBE THEY BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE BECOME PRO'S AT DRINKING AND GET AWAY WITH THIS OR MURDER WHICH BY SURPRISE IT WASN'T.. DO THEY HAVE CHILDREN ???? WHAT WOULD THEY DO IF IT WAS THEM ? AND MY FINAL THOUGHT IS HOW EMBARESSING TO THERE FAMILIES.... BUT ACTUALLY NOT DUE TO IT WAS NOT IN THE PAPER FOR THE WHOLE CITY TO SEE...
I can honestly say I have never drank then gotten behind the wheel nor have I ever been in the vehicle with someone who was drinking and driving. As far as I am concerned this man made a choice not against his will to get into the vehicle with the woman. She made the choice not against her will to drink and drive. They were the wrong choices and I am thankful that she will suffer the consquences.I wish she could have her license taken away forever. I cannot believe someone would try and defend either person. What they did was wrong end of story.
Trying to get home but got stuck? curious what part of the river those two live in?
