SNOW & HIGH WINDS FORECASTED

With a small hit of snowfall early this morning emergency crews were kept busy with car crashes throughout the area – including a single car, non-injury, roll over crash on Route 2 in Amherst Township.

The National Weather Service has issued a HIGH WIND WATCH for our area beginning Sunday morning through Monday morning.

A low-pressure system is expected to move east and then northeast across the region Sunday morning. A strong cold front will move east with the low-pressure system during the morning hours. The front is expected to usher in strong gusty winds along the Lake Shore and the wind could be sustained at 40MPH or greater into Monday morning.

The strong winds in combination with the cold temperatures will cause wind chills to drop to about 10 degrees below zero or lower at times. If you are planning to be outdoors Sunday into Monday morning, be sure to cover exposed skin to protect yourself from frostbite.

A HIGH WIND WATCH means that the potential exists for strong damaging winds to develop. Theses strong winds could bring down trees, power lines as well as cause property damage. If a HIGH WIND WARNING is issued you should stay inside and away from windows. Be prepared for trees blocking roadways and power outages.

Tonight: Snow, mainly after midnight. Low around 23. East wind 6 to 13 mph becoming south. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
Sunday: A chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 23. Wind chill values as low as -3. Windy, with a west wind 21 to 24 mph increasing to between 29 and 32 mph. Winds could gust as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Sunday Night: Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 9. Wind chill values as low as -14. Windy, with a west wind between 34 and 37 mph, with gusts as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
