HOUSE DEMOLISHED AFTER FIRE
Elyria – A house fire on East Ave in Elyria Friday night caused so much damage the house had to be brought down.
Elyria Firefighters were called to the side by side duplex just before 8 p.m. Friday evening. Fire inside of the home was extensive and as the interior began collapsing Firefighters went defensive.
Only one half of the duplex was occupied but the tenant was out of town at the time of the fire.
Fire officials determined that due to the damage the fire caused inside of the home that it was too unsafe to leave the house standing. A demolition company was contacted by the city to bring the house down.
Just after 12:30 a.m. the sound of the bulldozer’s tracks could be heard driving through downtown Elyria. The owner of the demo company said that when he got the call he was going to transport the bulldozer to the scene on a trailer but he found a problem when he got outside into the cold. During the warm stint the trailer wheels had sunk into the ground – then when the temps took a quick drop the ground froze locking the wheels down. A Police escort was provided to get the bulldozer to the scene.
The operator of the bulldozer methodically took the house apart, piece-by-piece – section-by-section. In the end he had collapsed the house right into a nice neat pile in the center of the home. Neither of the surrounding homes were touched by any of the debris.
Lorain and Avon Fire Departments provided mutual aid by covering the Elyria Fire station.
The Elyria Fire Department is investigating the cause of the blaze.

TMC,
You need to put 012 on the front with the other photo...you dropped the editing ball.
That's a really cool shot.
(Editing advice, that's got to be worth a free lunch)

Someone just lost there home right before Christmas and this is what you post?!?! Excuse my french but you are a BUMBLING IDIOT!!!!! During a time of tragedy all you can do is talk s**t about something you know ABSOLUTELY nothing about. How dare you try and a stir controversy (which, btw, isnt even there) at the expense of someone elses loss.
Maybe before the holidays, or on your birthday, something like this can happen to you and we can turn this back on you.
Bad luck and misfortune to you!!!!!
Dont try and come back and save or explain yourself. Your colors have already been shown. Nothing you say can save you, and neither can that WORTHLESS boss/leader/puppet master billy boy!!
Let me see.....Call Avon & Lorain to come right now, or wait for the township to call people in from home and then respond. Is there really any question here?
Can't we all just get along
Mr. Castle I see no where in the posts that mentions Mr. Nilges. So why are you so upset? And what the heck is "House of Pain".
To the poster commenting back to the union post....there would be no controversy if you did not comment back to the post the way you did.
Let's not turn this site into Loraincounty.com; which I believe is still shut down.
Happy Holidays.
Wait a minute, let me get this straight bumbling idiot is French????
How about the volunteer,or pay per call, departments only calling other volunteer departments. Ok I'm not going to go on with this. Full time, on call, volunteer, etc. What ever you call it we are all out there doing our best to do our jobs and not get killed doing it. All departments keep safe and warm out there. And to all the anonymous with no names YOU ARE ALL COWARDS IF YOU SLAM SOMEONE ELSE AND CAN'T PUT YOUR NAME DOWN! R. Haas 21 year vet LFD.
Glad to see that no one got hurt, civilians or firefighters. Unfortunately every holiday seasons one of these awful incidents happen. My thoughts and prayers go out to this family. Elyria FD did a good job on the stop, arm chair quarterbacking in our line of work doesn't work, because you weren't there. No one from Elyria Twp FD is questioning whom EFD called, it has nothing to do with us.
Sorry, hit enter before I could finish, Merry Christmas to all!
You know it really bothers me that people use the comment sections of such tragities to post rediculous comments about something unrelated to the tragity. My heart goes out to the young man who lost everything he owned. He also lost his younger brother the day prior to the fire. So why you guys are busy complaining and being hateful to one another, maybe you should take a look at your own situation and be thankful that you have a place to sleep and loved ones still around you. Life is too short to be so damn bitter.
Firefighter Castle: You are the gem of your department I bet!!! I like your language and how you represent your department. Makes me glad I don't live in Elyria. I hope your bosses read this and deal with your conduct unbecoming to your department accordingly!!!
Those of you addressing Firefighter Castle of EFD:
He is what other firefighters should be, and aren't.
He cares about the citizens and whether or not one of his brothers will make it out alive.
He always puts the citizens first.
I know Jeff first hand, and I've been out on quite a few of the fires to watch. He has always been professional, and done whatever he had to on the scene.
Jeff is what you should be..stop complaining and downing him..he's only sticking up for his department, and what he believes in...
I need the arm chair fire experts to explain to me why it matters who the host departments call for mutual aid.Is it a really big deal if EFD has ETFD sit in its station for fill in or Avon or Lorain.I am trying to make sense of this. Also Lorain Fire is having working multiple house fires and nobody wants to comment on them.It looks like Lorain just goes about its business and does'nt wave its flag.I hope all responders have a safe winter season. Happy Holidays Everyone.
FF Jeff Castle,I thought he name was Gus or Larry. Whats up with that.
Lorain doesn't purposely exclude volunteer departments. They work well with them. Like everyone except Elyria. They call based on resources and location, not union status.
Lorain doesn't have a few members with outspoken ego problems like Elyria does.
Lorain has been too busy to take the time to come on this board and stir things up anyways.
DJ
Why should anyone on here judge or complaining who anyone calls for mutual aid. It is up to each individual department who they call.
can i just say that firefighters kicks ass who ever you guys are god bless.
Ummm Noel... I'm not sure bulldozing a house qualifies as a good "stop"
The Elyria Fire Departments fire suppression policy goes something like this.
1)Call in all the guys you can to maximize overtime.
2)Don't call the jolly vollies
3)Let the fire burn until all combustable materials are exhausted
4)Go back to the station and work on team posts that get signed by the greatest FF of all time...that's you mr. Castle
Kenny,
Why do you have a problem with FF Castle?
And, why don't you use your REAL name? lmao..
Why thanks Kenny:
Been doing 29 years now and grew up around the FD.
I'm just messing with you Noel. I have loaded more than one patient onto a helicopter with you over the past years.
You are a pro all the way.
Kenny
