TRUCK SLAMS ELYRIA FIRETRUCK

DRIVER FLEES SCENE & DITCHES TRUCK
Elyria – Elyria Firefighters are more accustomed to responding to crashes and helping people but Thursday afternoon they became the victims.

Firefighters riding on Ladder 7 were traveling north on East Bridge Street in the curb lane near the Get-Go Gas Station when a white Silverado pulled out of the station striking the truck head on.

Firefighters say that the driver of the Silverado fled the scene right after the crash. The truck took a right turn on East River and then a left on Clark Street. Although the Firefighters attempted to follow the truck they decided to stop and wait for Police at East Broad & Clark Street.

Police Officers began searching the area for the Silverado while Firefighters were filling out reports and assessing the damage. An alert Officer spotted an abandoned truck matching the description given by Firefighters parked behind the Lormet Credit Union on East Broad Street.

According to Lieutenant Andy Eichenlaub of the Elyria Police Department the driver has not yet been identified. Officers have impounded the truck while the investigation and search for the driver continues.
