DETAILS RELEASED ON FATAL CRASH

Elyria – With the investigation still ongoing, Police have released some details from Tuesday night’s crash on West Ave.

The victims have been identified as 46-year-old Lemuel Voorhies of Elyria and 39-year-old Kimberly Smith of Elyria. Voorhies, who was ejected from the car died from massive trauma to his chest and neck. Smith suffered serious injuries and was taken by Helicopter from Elyria Memorial shortly after arriving to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

While Police Officers, specially trained in accident reconstruction, continue to piece the crash and the events leading up to the crash together they say they know now that the two victims were traveling south on West Ave in a 1993 red Corvette at a high rate of speed. The Corvette struck the first parked car sitting on the west side of the roadway. The Corvette then spun around striking the second car sending it into a third parked car.

Voorhies was thrown from the Corvette and landed on a fourth car striking the trunk and back windshield before coming to rest on the ground next to the car.

When Paramedics and Firefighters arrived on scene neighbors had already pulled Smith from the car and had her on the ground on the east side of the roadway assisting her.

As the investigation continues there are a couple key questions that Police are trying to answer – Who was in the drivers seat and did alcohol or drugs play a part in the crash.
