SHOOTING ON HIGH STREET

Elyria Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired early this morning to 210 High Street. While responding an Officer spotted a Chrysler 300 traveling on Broad toward Elyria Memorial in an “urgent manner”. The Officer followed the Chrysler to EMH where a gunshot victim was dropped off. The Chrysler had left the area before the driver could be identified. When Officers arrived 210 High Street they discovered forensic evidence that a shooting had taken place at the residence.

The victim, 21-year-old Legend Mills of Elyria, was treated at EMH and later flown to Cleveland Metro Health Medical Center.

A Lorain County Sheriff’s Deputy later observed the Chrysler on West River Road North and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Michael Lewis of Elyria, stopped and fled on foot. After a short foot chase Lewis was taken into custody and charged with Obstructing Official Business. Lewis made a statement to the Elyria Police that although he did transport Mills to the hospital he had no involvement in the shooting. Lewis is currently being held in the Elyria City Jail.

Elyria Police Detectives are continuing the investigation, gathering forensic evidence and interviewing witnesses. Police say that they are receiving conflicting reports at this time.
