2nd FIRE STRIKES CHESTNUT HOME

Elyria – An early morning blaze on Chestnut Street in Elyria has left a home completely destroyed.

Fred Songer of Elyria said he was sitting at a traffic light at Broad and West when he saw the bright glow coming from behind Kaplan’s Furniture. “At first I thought it was the furniture store but then as I got closer I could see that it was a house engulfed in flames here on Chestnut.”

When Firefighters arrived they found heavy fire & smoke coming from all windows and doors. Neighbors informed Fire officials that the home was under renovations from a previous fire and that nobody was living there currently. With that Firefighters went on a defensive attack hitting the fire from around the house.

The fire was brought under control within an hour but Firefighters remained on scene for hours hitting hot spots and performing overhaul.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
