TEENS CRASH INTO GUARDRAIL

“LUCKIEST KIDS IN THE WORLD”
DEVELOPING STORY
Elyria – A single car crash on Ford Road has left some residents and people driving by wondering if things will ever change. “These two kids are the luckiest two kids in the world, a couple of inches to the left or right and this would have been another teen fatal crash,” said one neighbor.

The two teens were driving north on Ford Road just past the Metro Parks when the driver lost control and went off the right side road. The car struck the beginning of a guardrail and just kept going. The guardrail ran up over the hood of the car crashing through the windshield before coming to rest on the roof.

Both the driver and passenger were transported by LifeCare Ambulance to Elyria Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Check back Tuesday for complete details and photos.

WTF, you kids have not seen enough carnage in the last two weeks? Parents, wake up, do you want my next run to be your kid that OSP is going to tell you your kid is dead?

I do not blame the parents entirely for this and maybe not at all. The parents with very young children are going to be setting examples for their children that they will carry with them as young adults. That is where it begins. We need to teach them when they are babies...respect for everyone and morals. These two teens are very lucky to be alive. I show my 17 year old son all of these articles and have him look at the articles involving the crashes. I have tried everything in my power to protect him and just hope that is enough...but I also remember I was a teenager at one time.

WOW! If this isn't a wake up call for Lorain County parents and young drivers I don't know what is. I bet if you took your son or daughter for a field trip out to Capel Road near Midview High School and showed them the site where 2 young men just lost their lives or have them talk to the student bodies of both Midview and Keystone kids maybe just for a little while these kids may "see the light" so to speak. My son is in 8th grade and said that several of the kids he knows saw the crash site right after the boys crashed and it really affected some of his friends. I just wish that kids would just slow down and realize that a car is no different then a loaded gun.

Thankfully the kids on Ford Road are alright and their family, friends, schools, and communities don't have to attend another funeral. Having my own kids and knowing that driving is in the near future for them makes me nervous but I hope as a parent I can get the message across that when driving a car nothing else matters except the road. Kids put the phones down until you reach your destinations and remember that when you have another person in the car to pay attention to the road and keep the radio down. I would hate to think about another parent having to get a call or knock on the door with the news that has been delivered to 3 families over the past few weeks in the southern part of Lorain County.

This really needs to be looked at by ODOT. Guardrails should never act like this one did, something in the design is not correct here. Those kids are lucky but have you ever hydroplaned or skidded on some ice and bumped into a curb or guardrail? This is simply the fault of a faulty safety device. Require ODOT to think about placement of these things and require them to install them correctly! I had a deer rip the roof of my car in Pennsylvania at 65mph and that’s the scariest thing I have seen since that happened to me. Don’t blame the kids because it looks really bad that carnage was not all there fault.

Why in Gods name is it ODOT's fault? It's the city's property. They hit the guard rail at the right angle and broke the post causing the rail to follow up into the vehicle. People, not just kids need to pay better attention when they drive. I've had people pull out in front of me many times and most I've notice are on their cell phones. Haas

JMN North Ridgeville maybe along with showing all of these articles to your boy, you also have him wear "we can drive" t-shirts to the midview-n. ridgeville game. that should do it.

That was not a fair comment at all. My sisters both go to North Ridgeville and my kids go to Midview and my sisters could not believe that some of the kids from their school actually did something so inconsiderate. Most of the Ridgeville kids were very consoling and signed banners and talked with the Midview students at the game and told them how sorry they were.

I feel kids will be kids,
but as parents we have to do everything and anything to get these kids to realize what can and does happen. Every teenager in this county NEEDS to see the pics on TMC of these accidents and talk to some of these students at Midview or Keystone who have lost their friends.
EVERYONE, not just teenagers need to realize life is precious,
WE ALL NEED TO SLOW DOWN!
As a parent of a Midview student who was a friend to Billy and Richard, I find it so very disrespectful and down right disgusting that a few North Ridgeville students wore t-shirts to the NR/Midview game Friday with "at least we know how to drive". Their parents are the ones who should do something about their kids!

As a North Ridgeville resident, I would like to apologize to Midview for the t-shirts worn by those idiots. They went way beyond tacky! It was stupid, disrespectful and cruel to the family and friends of those two boys.
Please realize that the majority of us wish you and your families well and grieve with you in the loss of these two young gentlemen. Don't let some idiots with no compassion whatsoever ruin your memories. Hopefully they will achieve some level of maturity someday and realize just how tactless and inhumane their actions were.

I agree that the t-shirts worn by North Ridgeville students was wrong. But to say "Their parents are the ones who should do something about their kids!" Where was Billy's parents when everyone knew of his reckless behavior....are you going to say they did not know? And speaking of inhumane...you cannot get anymore inhumane than the tragedy caused by Billy.

Thank you North Ridgeville resident, that is exactly how we explained it to the young people who were upset after seeing the t-shirts.
As I said Kids will be Kids.
It's all about choices.
I apologize for saying "their parents", because as a parent of sons, I will be the first to admit no matter how they have been brought up, what they have been taught they are going to make their own choices.
That is why we should pray for all and work together to save our young people.

First off THANK GOD these kids are alive, as a mom of 2 young drivers 17 and 21, I preach all the time, BUT... teenagers think they are invincable, that it cannot happen to them, I KNOW that they txt and read txt messages when they are driving which causes distraction....I'm sure almost all young drivers do this, and maybe one day they will understand that accidents only take a spit second for your eyes to leave the road, that a tradgedy can happen....We were all teenagers once and speed and inexperience will always be there for our young drivers just one thing to say SLOW DOWN PUT DOWN THE PHONE YOUR TXT WILL STILL BE THERE WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT YOUR DESTINATION.....GOD BLESS ALL DRIVERS
