"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT"
Carlisle Township – If you were out and about late Friday night and had a view of Elyria’s southeast sky, you would have been saying, “What the hell was that” too.
For about 10 to 20 seconds the southeast sky was lit up with a very bright white light. It covered a large portion of the sky and was bright enough that it shut off streetlights in the downtown and southeast parts of town.
The source of the light ended up being transformers exploding along East River, starting at Calann Drive and as far north as Harvard Ave.
The reason for the transformers exploding was a female who chose to drink and drive struck a utility pole at the corner of East River and Calann Drive in Carlisle Township. The transformers started exploding like dominos after the crash causing that light show in the sky.
Elyria Police Officers and Lorain County Sheriff’s Deputies headed to the southeast area after witnessing the light show to search out the cause. An Elyria Police Officer spotted the spilt pole and the intoxicated driver sitting in a front yard.
The woman was taken into custody for OVI. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
