ELYRIA MAN CAPTURED BY COPS
DOWN BY THE RIVER

Elyria – While on patrol an Elyria Police Sergeant watched as a black Chevy that was initially stopped at a traffic light on Broad Street and Cedar drive through the light. The Officer pulled the Chevy over in front of Murphy Brothers. Police say the driver, 27-year-old Jason Hicks of Elyria, jumped out of the car and ran to the bridge over the Black River. Hicks jumped over the concrete railing and “stumbled down the embankment” toward the river below.
The Sergeant, who had already called “foot pursuit”, spotted Hicks heading for the river and ordered him to stop – Hicks did continued north along the river.

Three other people were in the car that Hicks ran from: Gabrelle Savary, Joseph Weinot and Hicks brother Shawn Hicks.
Savary told Officers that she was the owner of the car and that she let Hicks drive. Savary was then charged with Wrongful Entrustment and released with a court date.
Shawn Hicks, while getting out of the car was stumbling and continually cursing and spitting. Hicks was taken into custody for Disorderly Conduct – Intox (DC-I) due to the fact that he could not stand up without leaning against the car. While in the Police Station a Corrections Officer found a small amount of marijuana inside of Hicks pants pocket. Shawn Hicks was charged with the DC-I and possession of marijuana.
Jason Hicks was charged with Red Light, OVI, Obstructing Official Business and Seat Belt.
