COLLEGE STUDENT TASERED

A public appearance by Senator John Kerry Monday at the University of Florida turned into pandemonium when a 21 year old Journalism student, known for posting practical jokes online, was arrested and tasered by campus Police for resisting arrest.

The problem began when the Andrew Meyer went over his allotted time at the microphone asking questions of the Senator. He had asked Kerry about impeaching
President Bush, why he didn't challenge the 2004 election results and whether he and Bush were members of the secret society Skull and Bones at Yale University.

In a news release, University Police said that they were summoned by the forum’s sponsor to escort Meyer from the building. Police added that Meyer had been tasered because he resisted arrest while Officers tried to handcuff him.

Meyer was arrested on charges of resisting an officer and disturbing the peace, according to Alachua County jail records, but the State Attorney's Office had yet to make the formal charging decision. Police recommended charges of resisting arrest with violence, a felony, and disturbing the peace and interfering with school administrative functions, a misdemeanor.

Videos of the incident have been posted on YouTube and have been viewed over 500,000 times already in just one day. Using the new Comment Policy; feel free to post your thoughts on this story.

He was looking for attention and he got what he deserved.

The only thing better than watching someone get tasered is watching someone waiting to get tasered.

He is lucky he got tasered instead of hit with an ASP, baton, even sprayed. You physically fight or resist with the police, you're an idiot; plain and simple.

This guy is a journalism student! I did not hear him pause to even get an answer to any of the questions he was asking Kerry. He must be in love with his own voice.

well I see this whole issue a bit different.

What Andrew was doing was exposing Kerry for being in on the whole election fraud. Andrew got his chance to stand up and ask questions, and of course since the media censors the truth, many people didn't know much of what he was saying. He had to get them up to speed so his question made sense.

If you'll notice the police were there waiting. And from the looks of it, 6 were standing behind him, waiting. Now why would a rally of this nature require 6 police officers during a question and answer session? They were waiting for a young man like this to stand up and ask "the wrong questions". In America we use to have freedom of speech. There was a time when no question was a wrong question. There was a time when our media asked questions that required our political leaders to be accountable to the American people, but those days are long gone.

In an educational institution, where a whole lot of thinking and intellect is being nurtured, and the leaders of our future are coming into their own, a thing like a simple question that asks about accountability should be hailed as a leadership quality rather than decent.

The very freedoms we enjoy are because young men like Andrew, long ago did not want to bow to evil leaders and decided we needed a country where we could be free. Where we could say what we thought and ask questions of our leaders without fear of being attacked or tasererd.

The comments expressed here sound like they want Andrew to be silent and conform. How dare he ask an important question that exposes Kerry for who he really is. He waited his turn, but because he made Kerry uncomfortable, he was removed. Our leaders are appointed by us. They answer to us.

It chills me to the bone to see anyone react to this obvious Constitutional denial of freedom as the boy being a punk for not conforming and behaving. Are we living in a police state?

Read your Constitution and read your Declaration of Independence to remind you of what our countrymen fought for so long ago and we've forgotten. He didn't bring a gun to that rally he brought words.

I'll speak for Andrew and finish what he was trying to say before he was silenced and you all stood here and chastised him for exercising his free speech. Kerry won the election for president. Research was done and many voters were taken off the voting ranks by fraud. The book he referenced explained what happened. But of course it would never have made mainstream media so an intelligent person would have to seek out the truth if they really wanted it. So why is Kerry now a supporter of the war and why didn't he challenge the results of the election when he in fact knew he won the election? And why isn't he supporting the impeachment of George Bush? All really great questions... He offers Kerry's involvement in "Skull and Bones" a fraternal society that both Bush and Kerry are in as the reason.

The Skulls was a great movie and it somewhat explained the underground societies associated with certain powerful persons in society.

It's fairly obvious that this Andrew fellow, or whoever this kid is, was on a mission to disrupt the rally for his own purposes. He had no intention whatsoever of actually illiciting a reasonable response from anyone. His objective was to become beligerent right from the start and try to make his "point", whatever that may be. Once it became apparent that this was his aim, he needed to be escorted from the premesis. The officers, one on each side, used a standard "escort position" and led him away. Once he started to pull away and resist. The officers had every right, no.. an obligation, to take him down and place him under arrest for disorderly conduct. During the arrest process, he continued to resist even when confronted with the possibility of being tasered.

Then you have the liberal nut balls whining about civil liberties and how the cops are brutal jerks.

At least some of us understand the reality of the streets.

Now he can wear his tie died shirt, write his thesis on police brutality, and burn his flag. And others will fight and die for his right to do so......

Did you hear how many people clapped and cheered after the police TRIED to escort Andrew out of the auditorium? I find that an interesting consensus.

Also, I like this hippie mentality...."They are going to try and kill me", "They're giving me to the government."

ahhhh! what are you to do Andrew???...they might take you out to the river and bury you with your book like they do with most people. It's true, most people who ever have interaction with the police end up dead. MORON!

It's a sad day in America when a patriot who believes in the Constitution is called a liberal nut ball. Actually the definition of a conservative is one who believes in the Constitution. That's a staunch Republican Conservative value not a liberal one. Seems things are all bass ackwards in the reality department. The reality of America is we are still under Constitutional law, and if that sounds like a "nutty" idea, you may be living in the wrong country.

I agree with ladalang. His behavior was probably not much different that that of John Kerry himself when he was that guy's age.
